Patient FAQ

Depending on the type of surgery you need, how long the procedure is and whether we need to order any equipment, you can usually have surgery 1-3 weeks following consultation.

Yes, all of our surgeons treat Veterans.

Yes. In order for your health fund to cover any hospitalisation resulting from the consultation, the consultation needs to have been covered by a referral.  It is really best for you to discuss your condition with your GP before arranging an appointment anyway, then they can ensure you have had appropriate diagnostic imaging (ie; x-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound) performed prior.

Usually. As orthopaedic surgeons primarily look after conditions of the musculoskeletal system, an x-ray is usually a minimum requirement for an initial consultation.  You should ask our friendly staff when you phone what will be required prior to your appointment as it really depends on what condition you are seeing the surgeon about.

The surgeon will review your referral letter and all imaging you have had, take a detailed history from you, examine you and possibly perform some physical tests. He will then discuss surgical and/or non-surgical options to treat your condition and together you will decide on how to proceed.

We allow 30 minutes for your initial consultation.

Parking at John Flynn Private Hospital is very restricted. Public transport is the best option and there are courtesy buses that travel from northern parts of the Gold Coast and as far south as Tweed Heads. If driving, you should allow 15 minutes to park and walk to the rooms.
